What is a Political Party?

A Political Party is a group of people who came together  to contest elections and hold power in the government. They agree on some policies and programmes for the society with a view to promote the collective good.

How many party system are there?
There are 3 Types of Party System all over the world:
  • One Party System
  • Two Party System
  • Multiparty System

  1. One Party System

This system is also known as Single Party system. In this type of system only one party is allowed to control and run the government.
Although, legally speaking, people are free to form political parties, it does not happen because the electoral system does not permit free competition of power.

Two Party System

There are some Countries, in which power is usually changes between two main parties. Several other parties may exist, contest elections and win few seats in the national legislature. But the only two main parties have the major chance in getting victory of seats to form government.
